Abbreviated: A Short-Film Showcase Series is a recurring coming-together in NYC that provides a safe, comfortable and low-stakes space for filmmakers to share their work, expand their audience and connect with their community and fellow creatives. Each event will be curated around a central theme and feature multiple pieces that reflect that idea.

THE NEW NEIGHBORHOOD is a mockumentary web series that explores what it means to be a New Yorker. The lens is turned onto some more-than-eccentric weirdos to highlight the city’s ever-diversifying demographics. Filmed in 2017 & 2018, Season 2 premiers Wednesday November 5th at Squeaky Wheelz Productions’ Abbreviated: A Short-Film Showcase.

AND THE WATER IS RISING is a videopoem that follows the last three New Yorkers left alive in the moments after a flood washes the city away for good. The film was shot during the height of the pandemic in December 2020, with one director working from a “high-risk” quarantine bunker and the other working with the team on the ground. The piece is based on a performance poem developed by writer-performer David Potters while in residence at Bowery Poetry Club.
